Brand details on webbing are no longer limited to a simple printed label. For bag, garment and outdoor product brands, jacquard and printed webbing allow logos, patterns and brand colours to become part of the product itself. This article explains how both technologies work, what they are suitable for, and how to prepare artwork for production.
Jacquard webbing is woven on a jacquard loom, where individual warp threads are lifted according to a pattern file. Because the design is created by the weave structure itself, the pattern does not fade or peel off. Logos, brand names, repeating geometric patterns and even fine lettering can be produced directly in the tape, with a clear front face and a naturally finished reverse side. Jacquard webbing is widely used on backpack shoulder straps, luggage handles, pet collars, lanyards and premium garment trims.
Printed webbing follows a different route. The base tape is woven first, and the design is then applied by transfer printing, screen printing or sublimation. This makes it possible to reproduce multi-colour artwork, photographs and gradient effects that would be difficult to weave. Printed webbing is often chosen for promotional items, seasonal collections and products where a high level of graphic detail matters more than a woven texture.
The choice between the two usually comes down to three factors: durability, artwork complexity and order quantity. If the design needs to survive years of abrasion, sunlight and washing, jacquard is the safer option. If the artwork contains many colours or fine gradients, printing offers more freedom. In terms of quantity, jacquard requires pattern preparation and a minimum order quantity per design, while printed webbing can be more flexible for smaller runs.
For the best result, buyers should prepare artwork in vector format, specify Pantone or colour references, and confirm the tape width before sampling. Webbing width directly limits how much detail can be reproduced: a 20 mm tape cannot carry the same lettering size as a 38 mm tape. It is also worth confirming the yarn type, since PP, polyester and nylon take colour differently and produce slightly different shades.
